Most of the historic buildings are located in Lennep, including the birthplace of the explorer of the X-rays, Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen. He was born in Lennep am Gänsemarkt in 1845. About 100 meters away from the birthplace is the German X-ray museum in Schwelmerstraße. The museum possesses a world-wide collection of X-ray equipment.

The Cleff house in the Hasten district, built in the rococo style of the 18th century, is one of the most beautiful mansions in the Land of Berg. Another attraction is the highest railway bridge in Germany. The Müngsten Bridge was completed as a steel arch bridge in 1897 and crosses the Wupper along the route from Remscheid to Solingen. Remscheid is the largest holiday road in Germany. The Deutsche Alleenstraße leads from the Baltic Sea to Lake Constance. Remscheid has a large number of churches. One of the most famous church buildings is the Protestant Town Church, which was inaugurated as a Baroque Saalkirche in 1726.
