National Park encompasses the central and the highest part of Lovćen mountain massif. It was proclaimed a national park in 1952.
Cetinje is a town of immense historical heritage which was founded in the 15th century. It became the center for Montenegrin life through being both a cradle of Montenegrin culture and Orthodox religious center. The authentic Montenegrin architecture will serve as a time-machine that will take you through its rich history.
Aligned with bright colored houses you can see former embassies from the past century proudly decorating the main street of this royal city. Walking through the city you can see the most important monuments that are distinguished by their beauty and historical relevance - Monastery of Cetinje, Biljarda (residence of Peter II Petrović Njegoš), King Nikola’s Palace, Court Church at Ćipur, etc…
River Crnojević
The place itself keeps remnants of historical buildings from the time of Ivan Crnojević such as cellar of a building destroyed long ago which is associated with the work of the so called Print House of Obod (Obodska štamparija), where the first Cyrillic book “Oktoih prvoglasnik” was printed in 1494. Apart from that, the first pharmacy in Montenegro was opened there as well as the first arms workshop. In the early 20th century the factory “Marica” produced nacre – pearl made of fish scales.
In the 19th and the 20th century Rijeka Crnojevića was the biggest Montenegrin port and a leading trade center.
At the entrance to Rijeka Crnojevića there is a stone bridge called “Danilov most”. It was raised by Prince Danilo in 1853 in memoryof his father Stanko Petrović. Next to the bridge on the left he built a one-storey building known as “Mostina“ which is preserved until the present day.
Skadar Lake is the biggest lake in the Balkans. Due to its geographic position and sub Mediterranean climate, it is one of the most important habitats of swamp birds in Europe, right after the river Danube delta. There are around 280 bird species on the lake, including the rare curly pelican, which became a trademark of the National Park. Southern hinterland of the lake (Crmnica) is famous for the best vine in Montenegro.
Budva is the metropolis of Montenegrin tourism thanks to the great number of beaches that make this a most desirable tourist destination. Apart from its natural beauty, such as its bay islands and beaches, Budva is rich in historic monuments. Old town lies on a small peninsula and represents a treasure chest of culture heritage.
During the summer months it turns into a City Theatre with numerous local performances and shows from abroad. In the Stari Grad (old town) you can also visit many shops, cafés, restaurants and galleries. Monasteries Stanjevici, Podostrog, Rezevici i Gradiste are important historic and religious monuments of Budva.
